Knitting a Purpose

Happy New Year!
After a lovely and much needed break, I am feeling refreshed and ready to face the new semester. Only a couple more semesters to go until I can come back from break to a classroom full of my own students!
Until then, I have decided to follow the trend of making new years resolutions. Not quite the trend of achieving perfect fitness or cooking everything I see on Pinterest, though. My resolution for this year is to knit.
What can be accomplished through a year of knitting? Im hoping quite a lot. I love the practice of knitting because it is a meditative act of weaving and creating. There is an endless amount of colors, shapes, and objects to be formed with those two needles. My plan is to broaden my textile skills and give them away. In fact, giving away the product will be the main point to my resolution. Not only will it keep me from owning too many scarves, but it will spread warmth and fuzzy feelings to those around me. What can say "I care about you" more than a hand-knitted and cozy creation?
I have already finished my first lovely scarf for an equally lovely friend.....now I'll have to find another victim of random knitting...
