I absolutely adore your lesson plan, and if you will let me I would love to use it in the future (if I can). I love the idea of using photoshop to alter their personal identity. This is such a strong subject and yet easy to work with in a high school setting. I am a little confused by your teacher example though.
Mandy, i love your lesson plan. You are always very creative and it's great to see it come out in this. Identity is such a great topic to work with and I feel like we need to approach it more than we usually do because sometimes it is a sore subject. Great Job!
This is purely fantastic! Self exploration of identity and the manipulation of visual identity is a brilliant idea for a project, especially at the age in which they are truly discovering who the are as human beings. I think the project may have to be two fold, though. One in which shows what they believe their identity is and one that manipulates their identity.
Altered images, Instagram has killed our visual culture. I like the alteration of identity, you wouldn't believe how often kids think about being someone else. I still do sometimes.
The lesson is STRONG, it has STRENGTH, and is SOLID! STRONG!
This lesson seems like a great way to introduce students to Photoshop. I think that students really need to have a lot of practice in photoshop while they are still in K-12. The conceptual aspect of changing your own identity is also interesting, and I think that students will enjoy it.
I think this is a great Idea. I also think guys look at magazines and hope to look at the guy models. Are you teaching them also how we are perfect just the way we are? They don't have to look at models and relate themselves to that. Also I would be interested what type of images you will end up having to deal with. What if someone draws themselves dead or beaten or something to that effect. I think it would really enlightening to find things out about your students and how they view themselves.
movie: I really like how simple it was and yet how complex of a concept. I think there was a great analogy between community and Jenga.
Really great work here on this lesson plan, I really like the project and how you are using the big idea. I do think that the teacher example should set a higher standard for quality, especially when compared to your artist example, but overall great job!

But soft and subtle, without restraint.
