Artist Statement
Creation is the way in which I explore myself, my abilities, and how I can contribute to the world. Although my entirety of work may not be visually unified, they all were created for the purpose of experience. For me, experience means gaining practice as well as causing an internal change within myself or others.
Experience for practice is evident in my work through the improvement of craft. Displaying quality craftsmanship is essential for communicating a concept that seems intentional. Therefore my work pushes my ability to create clean, professional, and solid pieces of art.
Experience for internal change can be seen in my work through the concepts that I explore. Often my concepts relate to the exploration of self and what defines me. Emotional changes can also relate to the purpose in which I begin creating. Much of my work, including textile pieces, metalwork, and a public mural, are formed with the intention of encouraging others. I believe that art holds great power in expression, therefore I seek experience in using art as a social tool.
As my work progresses, I hope to focus my experiences towards a greater purpose. I wish to continue pushing my craft, but there needs to be a useful outlet for the final creations. Whether it be for a jewelers career, the education of children, or the benefit of a community, my goal is to create a professional army of work that will fight for a positive influence.
